While this thank you note to all successful purchasers and underbidders at the recent Dulverton Bull Sale maybe a little late that doesn’t mean Sal and I plus the balance of the ‘Dulverton Team’ is any the less extremely grateful for the wonderful support. It has been such an amazing way for us to have celebrated our 40 years of breeding the Dynamic Dulverton Angus. Who would ever have thought back in 1981 when Annie A1 came into the world that 40 years on we would sell 88 bulls for the awesome average of $15,159 a magnificent yet most humbling sensation.
A total of 73 registered bid cards was recorded for the physical auction while 46 online bidders registered with Elite Auctions. No doubting the popularity of the on-line component with a total of 15 head being transacted via Elite – thanks Chris Norris. The on-line component doesn’t work without the support of such professionally produced videos for each lot – thanks Ben Hooper of Clear Vision Imaging. Once again we are indebted to the professional manner in which the Colin Say and Co team has conducted the physical auction and interacted so positively with the clientele in attendance.

The Sale statistics totally blew Sal and I away, 76 2yr old’s sold to a top of $31,000 to Wirth Cattle Company, for Lot 14 Dulverton Quality Touch Q253 a Carabar Gunsmoke J134 son from an awesome Dulverton Annie J032. The volume buyer was repeat operator Michael Gallagher on behalf of Plumthorpe, Michael secured 11 2yr old bulls.

A total of 12 yearlings, nine of them from first calf heifers, sold to $24,000 to repeat Queensland client Glen and Loi McKinlay. Glen selected 3 yearlings, his top selection being Dulverton Red Handed R144 (young Owen Walmsley’s top selection) a Dulverton Peter Pan P058 son, Glen purchased P058 at last years sale. Warrick Grieve and daughter Ruby were very keen on the Chiltern Park Moe’s M6 yearlings they secured three all from first calf heifers. It is worth noting that Warrick has been a Dulverton client and hasn’t bought bulls anywhere else for the past 20 years, this draft bought his total to 42 bulls purchased.
Sal and I were ecstatic with the performance of the ‘homebred’ sires, note the composition of the sale lots was dominated by the ‘homebreds’ purely and simply because it was so difficult in the spring of 2018 to provide sufficient nutrition to enable us to carry out our normal A.I. program.
We offered 13 Dulverton New Approach N208 sons to average $15,000. Dulverton New Approach N208 is by Esselmont Lotto L3 from Dulverton Annie G037 making him a full brother to Lot 1 who was secured by repeat clients Lachlan and Trudy Mace for $26,000. A total of 18 Dulverton Medaglia M028 sons were sold to average $14,333. The top price of $18,000 was paid by James Speed another repeat client for the calving ease son of M028 Dulverton Quantum Q063, James added another nine bulls to his calving ease consignment. New clients John and Kate Scott put together seven super sire prospects including Lot 19 Dulverton Quasser Q166 at $18,000 – Q166 is by Dulverton New Approach N056 who sold at last years sale to Cascade Angus.
John Sylvester used his extensive knowledge of the Dulverton program to purchase a son of the calving ease champion Dulverton Montjeu M013. The bull Dulverton Qafila Q035 realised $24,000 and is from the first calf heifer Dulverton Xtol N117 a daughter of Dulverton Jackpot J267 who ranked 2nd for both MSA index and carcase marbling in his Cohort of the Young Sire Benchmark program. Dulverton Qafila Q035 Igenity data supports calving ease he registered a 4 for Birth Weight and 7 for Calving Ease Direct.
The efforts of the ‘Dulverton Team’ are to be praised for continuing to put in above and beyond the call of duty so that sale drafts such as this can be assembled in such ideal sale condition. Sal’s and my sincere thanks goes out to the Team headed by Tim. Tim is ably supported by Owen and Sam. The office support provided by Fiona and Steph can never be under estimated.
Finally once again thanks to all you enthusiastic fellow cattle breeders who support not only the industry as a whole but also the Dulverton program.
