The Igenity Beef Profile (IBP) is an excellent genomic measurement system, providing an indication of the genetic merit for breeding stock. The IBP is not Breed specific, its database comprises observations for seventeen (17) traits from seven (7) recognised Beef Breeds.
A recent study conducted by Kansas State University for the four (4) carcass traits- Carcass Weight, Marbling, REA and Fat comprising 6,400 head across five (5) feedlots, slaughtered in three (3) plants showed the IBP genetic prediction for for those traits, correlated amazingly well with the actual carcass measurements. The correlations were from 86% to 92%. The Marbling correlation was particularly powerful registering 86%. Studies comparing IMF% to actual measured carcass Marble scores in The USA and Australia show that relationship to be much less, in the order of 45 to 65%.
We invite you to use the Ready Reckoner below to investigate the more accurate genetic measure for Carcass Marbling. Marble scores of eight (8) and better will improve the genetic potential of your herd to Marble.
IGENITY BEEF PROFILE (IBP) READY RECKONER
The IBP genomic scores are communicated by the numerics 1 through 10, please be aware numeral 1 isn’t necessarily representing the “bottom” 10%, nor 10 the “Top” 10%. However, the scale does represent gradations in Genetic Superiority for the trait, 1 being less superior and 10 more superior. There are two exceptions, those being Birth Weight and RFI (Feed Efficiency). The lesser score for both these traits the greater the genetic superiority for the Trait.
It’s always been our contention that “The Biggest and The Most isn’t necessarily The Best”,

Happy to nominate Lot 4 V072 as heifer safe BW 5; CED 8; CEM 7;
Likewise Lot 41 V065 heifer safe BW 3; CED 7; CEM 8
V228. heifer safe BW 5; CED 8; CEM 9 (V228 retained for Stud duty and used over “V” heifers)
