2017 Angus Sale Lot 52

2017 Angus Bull Sale – Lot 52 Dulverton Larry L201

Dulverton Larry L201 is very special to Sal, me and the Dulverton Team, we believe he stands out as the pick of the Dulverton Harry H035 sons and H035 is certainly a contender for the lead sire of this years sale team. The yearling we offered at last years sale by Harry H035,   Dulverton Larry L154 was selected by the Knowla brothers James and Ted Laurie both highly regarded amongst Angus bull breeders and the wider commercial industry. Larry 154 has been entered in the Angus Young Sire Benchmark program and his calves are due, the information from these programs is essential to our program development going forward.

Dulverton Harry H035

I guess its no accident that Harry H035 produced a top class sale team. Close scrutiny of his pedigree reveals three mighty powerful cows in;

  1. Dulverton Locket V130. V130 produced a sale topping son, and had 13 calves—one a year for 13 years at a weaning ratio of 101
  2. Dulverton Dell B112. B112 produced a sale topping son Dulverton Joker J267 who has two yearlings represented in this sale. B112 has had 9 calves, 8 analysed for a weaning ratio of 103. B112’s paternal grandsire was Circle A 2000 a performance recognised sire.

III. Dulverton Peri B062. B062 has been a producer of female progeny, she is by Hyline Right Time 338, and 338 is also H035’s paternal grandsire. B062’s dam is by Dulverton R112, R112 and U91 are the only two bulls we have produced that were still naturally serving as 12 year olds. A set of 15 R112 steer progeny won an ALFA sponsored Feedlot grow out carcase competition in 1999 an entry of Picone Pastoral Company, Tallawanta Moree.

In addition to these great cows H035 is by Edward E155 who topped the 2013 sale at Dulverton and has a his dam’s sire Prairie Edge Marbul Design 931.

At the time of selection for use in the Dulverton herd 931 was the Angus Sire being promoted by Dean Bryant, Roseda Farms in the US, consider the following extracts from the Roseda breeding philosophy:-

“At Roseda, we can’t afford to single trait. We interact on a weekly basis with commercial herds, custom feedlots, processors, retail stores, restaurants and consumers. We buy 100% of the steers from our commercial herd partners who keep the heifers as replacements. We custom feed the steers, have them slaughtered and then merchandise them directly to wholesalers, retailers and consumers. This is not a chiller grading/sorting program. Virtually all the steers purchased go to the consumer with the Roseda Logo. Bottom line being that, Roseda genetics have to perform well at each stage of the production cycle.

931 proved himself first as a commercial sire before entering the purebred ranks as our leading stud sire. He is not the best at any one trait but offers the best combination of economically important traits”.

931’s performance in the American Angus Association sponsored Carcase Progeny Test conducted in 2001/2 further adds to his credentials.

Dulverton Larry L201 certainly owes much of his projected anticipated future to TC Franklin. Franklin is unique he has the ability to make very positive contributions from both sides of the pedigree. Note TC Franklin is the sire of Dulverton Herbert H008 (what a great job H008 has done with his set of 8 sons in this sale), he is the sire of Dulverton G077, in turn the sire of Dulverton J167 dam of Dulverton Latitude L006 used as a yearling over the maiden heifers.

TC Franklin is the sire of Dulverton Penny H185 (dam of Larry L201), Penny H185 is now proving to be one of our more celebrated cows, note Penny H185 is out of a proven Right Time 338 cow who boasts Re-build R112 in her pedigree.

Are we concerned by the three crosses of Right Time 338 in Larry L201’s pedigree ?—not at all, he is an in-bred success, join him well away from the Right Time 338 lines and he will ‘work a treat’. Just as a comparison our best breeding stockhorse mare—Jane has 3 crosses of Rivoli Ray in her pedigree, we breed her well away from those lines and she always produces well performed progeny.

Dulverton Larry L201 is a unique potentially valuable young sire we no longer have Harry H035 (broken penis) and so we have elected to keep 200 doses of semen from him. We require no further involvement in the bull, except the pleasure of following his progress in the successful purchasers herd. Should the successful purchaser wish to enter Larry 201 and provided there is a space we would happily go halves in the entry fee for the Angus Sire Benchmark project.
