2010 Dulverton Sale Report

We would like to thank all who attended our 2010 Bull Sale and in particular wish those successful purchaser’s of a Dulverton bull all the very best with their new sire.  We started delivering the bulls last week. The winter wet has curtailed the deliveries to date, the Mann River causeway on Shannon Vale was under last Saturday and Sunday and the loading ramp approaches unserviceable. It certainly is great to be too wet to move, a very welcome change.

63 registered buyers attended this year’s sale with these bulls going to centres such as Armidale, Coonabarabran, Moree, Walcha, Uralla and Clermont, Emerald, Injune, Marlborough and St Lawrence in QLD. Local Glen Innes support was greatly appreciated with 13 bulls selling within a 40km radius of Shannon Vale. Thank you to our local buyers who included the Donnelly, Johnston, Klingner, Miller, Norris, Newsome, Smith, Say and Wollon families.

This year’s top priced bull was Lot 1 Dulverton Durabul D59 an 861kg son of Hyline Right Time 338 out of one of our best Dulverton Rebuild R112 cows in Dulverton Annie V126.  Annie V126 has calved again, having a bull by Nichols Extra K205. Glen and Loy McKinlay bought D59 and D74 another 338 son out of Dulverton Kitty R61 (Dulverton Perfection P53 out of the Basin G101). Glen and Loy use Angus bulls to cross with Santa Gertrudis cows to breed Angus X Santa bulls for their clients in Central Queensland.

Thank you to the other QLD connections that supported us they include the Angus, Mace, McArthur and Olive families.

Warwick Grieve bought four long bodied, superior growth rate sons of the homebred 338 sire Dulverton Blaster B111.

The Chadwick family, were in the market for four heifer bulls, they selected:

two FV The King 308M sons,  Five Star Zeus Z51 son and a Dulverton Blaster B118 son.

The Nankivell family, supporters of the Dulverton program since the Willow Tree days (early 1990s) selected two ‘all rounders’ characterized by easy calving, plenty of milk, marbling and above average growth.

The Murphy family last bought a Dulverton bull while we were at Moree; Craig informed us he was still alive although it was difficult to ‘build him up’ after joining. We’ve now been at Glen Innes for 10 years. They selected a 790kg FV King son,  and a Marbul 931, plenty of longevity in both these pedigrees.

The Patchett’s purchased a Dulverton Uptake U91 son out of a Pixie V127 daughter.  V127’s first calf, a bull by Rock n D Ambush topped the 2003 sale, he was purchased by Dick & Pam D’Hudson. D206 combines the power of U91 with the maternal subtleties of Dulverton Wait for It W4. George and Sues’ draft of yearling steers topped the Dulverton Genetics Auctions Plus Sale in June; they made $2.20/kg.

The Reardon’s purchased possibly the most complete maternal young sire to leave Shannon Vale.

The Houlahan’s, made the trip to Shannon Vale and bought two very well muscled 338 sons to go over a line of Hereford and Hereford Cross cows.

Craig Panton who, with his father Jack, built our yards at ‘Currawee’ Moree bought a long bodied well muscled Marbul 931 son to go over sixty first calvers.

Volume buyer was Kilburnie Cattle Company, a company whose breeding program is jointly developed by the Kilburnie Management and Dulverton principals. The lots were purchased by Sire line and included: six Dulverton Uptake U91, three Dulverton Blaster B111, three Five Star Zeus Z51, three Fertile Valley King 308M. Kilburnie advise us that the Dulverton Uptake U91 sons’ progeny have outperformed other Dulverton sons’ progeny plus other industry accepted sires sons’ progeny by 10% at weaning and by 12% for dressing percentage.

The ‘Family Connection’ purchased three bulls this year. The Redden’s selected one of the heaviest muscled bulls on offer a 931 son and an extremely well balanced slick coated U91 son. Terry and Sue McGoldrick keen show steer enthusiasts selected a very correct, well muscled U91 son to go into their Limousin infused herd.

Ant and Jill Martin round out the Coonabarabran truck load, they secured a Baxter son. Ant bought U91’s full brother at one of our early Shannon Vale sales.

The Brown’s purchased a 700kg son of Baxter B82.

Maurice and Denise Hawden secured a heifer prospect bull by Dulverton Blaster B118 with near perfect feet.

The Judd family, who have been clients for the past decade and whose females we routinely class each year purchased two bulls from the 338 team.

Michael Campbell manager of ‘Wirribilla’ for Clyde Agriculture was one of our new buyers this year. Michael selected a large framed heavy son of B111 with very correct structure and near perfect locomotion.

We wish all purchasers of Dulverton bulls from this year’s sale all the very best and thank all those unsuccessful under bidders for their support and hope to see you next year.
